My genealogy information to share with you today is taken from the register of Early Members of Christ Lutheran church of Greene county, Iowa. At the time of these early settling ancestors it was called the St Peters church.

I felt I had to share these record because recently I had an inquiry about the Grote family involved with our William Meyer [my first male Meyer born Oldendorf] son of Juergen Hch. Wilhelm Meyer born 1843 at Eichdorf..

I had included the information at Ancestry from the Meyer book information which Verl Matthews sports in his Ancestry work at Ancestry.com. I now have decided it is about time to resubmit the copies of the St. Peters church records that I have had tucked away in a box. I dug them out tonight and so you can see it.

I Have Been Getting Some Help

I have been looking for a little help lately. I asked at one of the mailing lists if anyone could give me some information from any of the books. I may have asked who the researchers were in the area of Bleckede.

I have had great pleasure to join and involve myself in reading, not nearly enough at bleckede.de. If you haven't been there, do go.

Mr. M. Steinke was kind enough to email me to tell me about the AIDA online. Which had not been working for me lately. I am not sure why not. I started again for me last night. I consulted him about my ignorance in contacting them. I told him I had no clue how to find the exact place my Meyer lived in Oldendorf. Poor Mr. M. Steinke. I told him lots of things. Nice things though. He is going to get back to me.

He already has made a comment for us already. I know we will appreciate his presence! Every little bit helps to a better understood blog, does it not?

He is also a photographer and probably has a tree already finished. I think I have seen his name somewheres before. Perhaps he also holds relatives the same as me. I really must be getting more of my people seen.

That is one reason for this post. It is all good and wonderful to relay and store information at this blog, and maybe someday one of my blogs can look as pretty as the other peoples blogs but not yet. I still have so much to find. It is there I just have to cover it all, rather than the small amounts I have been doing. If not for Mark stirring me up to blog about GROTE, HAGEMANN , NAEFKE, AHRENS; I might not have found Gloria who had the key to SCHENKS, MICHELS, RIECKENS, RADEL and more SEIL. She must have explained her methods. Because he has come back with not only a few letters but a three by two foot chart of GROTE/ HAGEMAN family. I just know they include our others.

After seeing so intermixing of Ostheide area and Barskamp plus a few other villages of Bleckede I emailed the church. I may have to do so again, just in case that email like the chickens flew the coop. You know how they are, always trying to get away!

While I was browsing the Ostheide book Thursday night, I just knew GROTE TREE was involved over there in the villages around Radenbeck too. [ No I haven't been able to browse his new information. He has been pretty busy, moving and all. ] He promises to share. And we will keep an eye on his tree too at ancestry. We have his, the MATTHEWS Tree, and Gloria HOERSCHELMANN / PETESCH.

I worked yesterday at Glorias TREE watching the ancestry leaf spin, which again brought me to another one, [ sorry I don't have her name at my fingertips], who saw the light about Herman Moehrmann being Hoellman or Hellman. [ I will put both of them to the side soon.]

I have decided that one must spend time researching the names one already has with some kind of systematic order, so one does not miss any. There is so much more information out there and other places to still be checked. Besides blogging, I just must research too.!

GENEALOGY - LETTERS - SCHROEDER, NAEFKE, Reading Township in Calhoun county Iowa.

Multiple names in the same surnames can get so confusing. I can see why the Germans had to be so organized due to the fact that there might have been five Heinrich Schroeder in the same house and maybe twenty on the same block. The following letters are from Queries about the Schroeder names found at ancestry.com

Leona and Hilda SCHROEDER
(granddaughters of Heinrich SCHROEDER)
lived in Farnhamville, Iowa at the times of their deaths
in 2004 and 1988, respectively.
An obituary on Clarence SCHROEDER, their brother,
indicated that he had farmed in Reading Township,Calhoun county Iowa.

I have no information of the NAEFKE family
other than Dora having married Henry SCHROEDER.

I don't have any information on towns for the
Schroeders in Germany, other than the Marsala passenger list specifying Oldendorf.

I have a Henry Schroeder born in 1895.

Henry's parents were Carl SCHROEDER
& Dora OADE, and his wife was Bessie M. ONKEN.
He disappeared in the 1930s though, so there wasn't any records of him around then.
No, mine is a different Henry. My Henry SCHROEDER was
born in Germany in about 1839. He had a son named Henry,
but he was born in 1874 (too early for your Henry).
The younger Henry married Doretta (Dora) NAEFKE, and their only son was Clarence, born in 1919.
Could this be your Henry?

PUFFAHRT, PUFFERT, SCHROEDER, NAEFKE, BALLSTADT, GRADE, McVAY, RICHERT.

Wilhelm Friedrich PUFFAHRT anglicized his name
to William Frederick PUFFERT when he arrived in the U.S.
He was born in Hanover, Germany on April 11, 1872 to
Magdalena PUFFAHRT. (Born Feb 18, 1848; died Oct 18, 1916)
She was unmarried at the time. At the end of 1873 or first part
of 1874 Magdalena PUFFAHRT married Heinrich Schroeder.

They had three children together: Henry SCHROEDER (11/15/1874 - 3/6/64),
Emma SCHROEDER (7/28/1877 - 7/23/52), and
Ida SCHROEDER (9/5/1879-11/30/67)

The Schroeders and William PUFFERT arrived in the U.S. on April 1, 1889.
Heinrich died in February of 1890. The family lived in Iowa.

Henry SCHROEDER married Doretta NAEFKE (9/11/1882-1/18/57). They made their home in Iowa.

They had three children: Hilda Schroeder(3/25/1910-6/23/8x)
who never married and lived out her life in Iowa.
Leona Schroeder (7/10/1912-?) who never married and
moved to Denver, CO. and Clarence Schroeder (7/26/1919 -?)who married Helen GRADE (4/15/1922-?) in 1946.
I believe they worked the farm that Heinrich Schroeder had in Iowa.
Their children were Jeanene born Sep 14, 1948, Clarice born July 6, 195x, and Lanette born Aug 29, 196x.
My mother, Alma Puffert FRINK, corresponded with both Hilda and Leona Schroeder into at least the early 1980's.
The correspondence has been lost.
Emma Schroeder married Albert BALLSTADT (6/2/1871-7/21/1942).
They had two children: Caroline (11/28/1898-8/9/198x) and Edna (10/9/1900-4/14/48). Caroline did not marry. Edna married Raymond McVAY.
I believe they remained in Iowa as well. Ida Schroeder did not marry.

Some of the Schroeders eventually moved from the farm to Fort Dodge, IA. I'm pretty sure that Hilda lived in Fort Dodge.

William PUFFERT was trained in church architecture and building before he left Hanover, Germany. He built a Lutheran church in Knierim, Iowa in 1897, St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boone, IA in 1898, and St. Paul's Lutheran in Douglas, WA in 1915.
William m. Margaretha RICHERT in Boone, IA on Dec 14, 1899.
(Margaret and her family emigrated from Alsace-Lorraine, Germany
in 1881 on the St. Lorent.
Her grandfather, Jacob RICHERT, was born in Gottesheim,

Note: Some of the Schroeder family of Reading township had asked that I publish a little of the information that I have gained over the years. This is just one of them. I hope to continue with it now and then.

Genealogy Gold - and Family History about Grote, Naefke, Meyer Family Additions

I Have more Family History info for you on the Grote family related to me by Mark Kuhlmann.

There are 2 more siblings of Adele Grote Naefke Meyer. Frank Grote - Born Nov 1893 in Farnhamville, Iowa - Died and buried there in 1954. Then the youngest Grote - Paul Grote - born Feb 1895 in Randolph, Arkansas. Paul Grote's Canadian Immagrtion Papers dated 24 Feb 1924 went to Red Deer, Canada. From there he went on to Alaska to find his brother Carl ( went to Canada not long after their moving to Arkansas). After communicating with my brother Marvin Kuhlman, Marvin told me while he was stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Army as a Dentist ( late 1940's ), he tried to find Paul Grote, since they were related,............. Marvin said Paul had a gold claim and ............ the search for Paul Grote has stopped there. If your interested, Emma Grote married Frank Daniel Wenck of Glidden, Iowa. I have a pic of my parents ( Elmer and Amanda Kuhlman ) with the Wenck's on their farm in Glidden, Iowa. I've probably forgotten to add somethig but if and or when I remember, I'll send you something.

That information above is the email letter received this last December from Mark Kuhlmann about Grote, Naefke, and Ahrens. So, I will make some necessary corrections in my previous post. I will add on his information to the little that I have written here. I know, I know, I need to get busy and add more from clippings and notes.

Remember - Adele Grote also married William Meyer.

If you relatives and readers have any questions I should post to him, let me know. I certainly take my time in thinking of question I should be asking. So I can use all the help I can get, as they say.

Psst. psst. - I watch the Gold rush show religiously on the Discovery channel. I have been wondering where abouts the gold claim in Alaska could be for Paul Grote. I'll have to see if anything is shown on the census.

Genealogie of the Colonist Mosel From Boitzenburg

Since I have developed and interest in the eight colonists who went to Farnhamville; [The county of Calhon, Greene county and the county of Webster.]I decided awhile back to research the family Mosel. Since my dad always included the Mosels into that group. I thought it was best to start in Iowa.

I was lucky to find a person who had already done this. Herr Slotten was kind enough to write to me and give me some information, which I then shared with the Mosel family. I understand that Norma also wrote back to Mr. Slotten.

The Mosel family came from Boitzenberg, Mecklenber-Schwerin which is on the Elbe river in the Hamburg Germany area. It was part of East Germany after the war, The Elbe river was the dividing line.

The family for Johann Heinrich as we believe it to be. Johann was born
in 1839 and died in 1939 at 100 plus. All sons of the listed children were lost in the war most in Russia as old letters indicate.

Heinrich/ ? This marriage has 9 children with Laura being the oldest.

Laura, Paul, Carl, Alfred, Frank, Ernest, ?, ?, ?. This is what I think
it might be, but have never asked and Wife does
not know all and her mother has no interest. The only one to stay in
Iowa was Henry. Henry did go up to Minnesota
and see the other members. When Henry died in 1985 only Laura, Carl and
Paul were alive according to his obit.

Emma died in 1900 in Dawson Twp, Greene County, Iowa (Near Paton).
Final citizenship papers for 1901 are also
located in Geene county at the court house in Jefferson. I have a copy
that was made by one of the sisters for me.
The data from Germany was translated by one of the German professors
from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa.
I have only the translated data.

Notes
I have only started working with this family, so organization is still in
progress. I was working on my side of the family
and only pulled data for this side because I was in the tapes. I did my
research on Calhoun County at the
Rockwell City library since that is where the geneological data is
located. If you have data that is for 1925,
the state census lists the parents of individuals if they filled it in
correctly which is not allways the case.
The library has tapes for 1870, 1880, 1885,1895,1900,1905,1910,1920, and
1925, They also have the plat
maps and cemetary data plus obituary index plus newspaper tapes. The
Lusmann's are still in Farnhamville
but I have not talked to any of them in a couple of years. Not home long
enough to see everyone unless a scheduled activity since both families are located there. Hopefully this will get some things clear. The answers
to some of your questions will have to be done by the Henry Mosel
sisters, but my mother in law has no interest
in this. I need to find the correct one and probably can get other
data. Still working on updating Family Tree Maker to put all notes in. This is the first effort put into the family so is
taking time to compile. I do know the cousins that
are my age who are the grandchildren of Henry Mosel.
The data for the Seil, Nammany and others will have to wait until I can
view a tape at the FHC if it is still here.> --

Members of the Eight Colonists - Meyer, Heins, Seil , und Luhmann emigrated to Lohrville, Iowa

Welcome to my site about the Colonists from Oldendorf, Nahrendorf who settled around the area of Farnhamville, Iowa.

Some of our ancestors came to America from Eichdorf and Oldendorf. While they lived at Oldendorf, and worked as park rangers in Roethen. They attended the Luth. church at Nahrendorf.

They emigrated to Lohrville, Calhoun county, Iowa. Four years later they moved. In Calhoun county Iowa they attended a church near Farnhamville, Iowa. The church was St. Peters ev. Lutheran church. This picture is of the main street in Farnhamville, Calhoun county, Iowa.



The street looks like any other small town street.

My father said there was a "colony" of eight members, who came from germany to Farnhamville, Iowa. Most of the eight people of the Colony came from Oldendorf.

4. Fritz Schroeder - Oldendorf or Nahrendorf.Emigrated 1883.[Frau Mary] Schwester Marie from Duebbekold.
5. Naefke Dick and Dora. Emigrated 1889.
6. August Friedrich Wilhelm Seil - Born * 1848 from Dahlenburg and Gross Thondorf. He labored at Nuedlitz. oo Married Katharine Dorothea Maria Elisabeth Korn. [ Information of family in the Heinrich Porth and Gunda Freisch book of Familienkunde [OFB] Himbergen, Uelzen.] emigrated 1873 ??
7. Juergen Hch. Friederich Meyer - emmigrated from Oldendorf
in April 1869. His father worked at Roethen as a park warden.
8. Henry Seil geb. about *1859. Emigrated 1883. 00 Married Marie Ahrens. Emigrated 1891. Of Oldendorf?? [Nahnsen branch]

Farnhamville residents --- This picture taken in 1916 at the Bandshell in Farnhamville has descendents of some Ancestor members from Oldendorf and other villages surrounding Nahrendorf. Nahnsens were from Schleswig-Holstein, but they married Meyer women from Oldendorf. Mosel go back to Boizenburg, a municipality in the district of Ludwigslust, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. However, their wives were from the west side of the Elbe. Some Mosels were said to live in Bleckede. Vogels were from Bohemia. Kanning from Nienburg and or Heemsen. [ Minnesota Kanning and Iowa Kannings connect.]

Farnhamville, Iowa is a city located in the county of Calhoun and Webster county, near the Greene county border. That is why you find that Greene county settlers attended this church. Many of our relatives lived at Webster county, which is also located near the corner by Calhoun county, Iowa. Fort Dodge, and Guthrie are often mentioned hey are in the county of Webster.

Source: These pictures were taken from a little book about the little town of Farnhamville, which I used, when I was at their county library, which was at Rockville. I wish I could find this book to keep for myself. I will try and see if I can round up the name of the book about the celebration of Farnhamville. It may have been called " Then and Now".

Note: Boizenburg - It is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, 53 km west of Ludwigslust, 25 km northeast of Lüneburg and 50 km east of Hamburg. Old GDR.
