Genealogie Rambow offers a very interesting post and maybe rewarding for the right person with the right immigrant from Germany. Often times, we collect our basic data and then there is nothing else to find about our ancestors; so there comes a time, when you spend a little time browsing here and there and hoping there might be something there. In this case I suggest you check on some of the links Genealogie Rambow offers on the topic of Emigration.
On the two different posts the author writes that there is an ongoing collection of letters from emigrants backhome and lists of Emigrants from places like Brazil, Australia, and America. It is available for your inspection through the download of data. If one follows the link to emigration one can find a little info to browse.
Though the areas and places are limiting, I think I could try for Lutheran emigrants; and maybe palatinate might be promising for something on Fehring. Very limiting in years is the emigration during 1842-49 from Hamburg.
If your ancestor falls into the categories just right, you never know until you try.
Also the link about Bibliographies from Iowa. I am hopeing it is fruitful.
