My blog - Genealogy of Oldendorf, und Nahrendorf Had Been Discovered by Genea Bloggers

I just found out why I had an increase in followers this month. It was because I was noticed as a new Genea blogger and mentioned at Genea Bloggers here Dec.4, 2010. I had made a small quick search to see why, with no outcome for a reason of the increase.
Now you and I both know why and we all can read some of the other noticed bloggers. Now I can visit their sites and post if I want. I suppose I will use the Genea Bloggers symbol at the side. I am not sure who suggested me, but whoever did so. Thank you. I appreciate the attention. Genea Bloggers website has a good source of a great many informational links, including how to do's. I hope you check that out as well.

My blog has been around for some time just as http://arootdigger.blogspot.com/ has been around blogosphere, just nearly not as long. In fact I should check and see which month I actually started it.

For my blog Genealogy of Oldendorf, und Nahrendorf it means there is more of a likelihood of the right person to find me, who just may know something about our family. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks so much for stopping by here at my blogspot Genealogy of Oldendorf, und Nahrendorf. We're looking forward to a great new year.

Dear Kris Kringle, Santa Claus, St Nicholas, Could Your Check Your Naughty and Nice List?

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Dear Genea - Santa

This Saturday Night Genealogy Fun challenged, Issued by Randy Seaver at Genea Musings, is as Follows.
Write your Genea - Santa letter. Have you been a good genalogy girl or boy? What Genealogy- oriented items are on your Christmas wish list? They could be family history items, technology items, or things that you want to pursue your ancestral quest.
......................................................

Before Christmas 2010,

Dear Kris Kringle {Santa Claus], St. Nick

Thank you Kris Kringle, for last years gifts. It was really nice of you. I must have been a better girl than I thought.
I know you must check your naughty and nice list every year. I am so glad you have those lists, so you can give nice presents to good people. If you can Santa could you please check both of your Naughty and nice lists for Meyer people, who live in Oldendorf. Even better, Santa, if you please, could you dig out your old books and check in the vicinity of Oldendorf and der Goehrde for children who lived there in the early 1900's.

In fact, if you could find any children and grandchildren of Juergen Friedrich Meyer [born 1814 at Neetzendorf ] who moved to Oldendorf 1845 with his wife Kathrina Margarethea Luhmann. If it just happens to give the hof number, could you put it on a piece of paper for me, It would make the best stocking stuffer. Maybe you even know if he remarried after his wife Kathrina Margarethea died in 1856. I am sure it would be greedy of me to ask, but I have to ask you, if you have her name.

I have tried to be so good this year. I haven't spent much money at all on those wonderful German books, like those written by Heinrich Porth, Heinrich Borstelmann, or Dr. Raven's book about Bleckede hofs. As much as I long to possess them; I have been resisting the tempation to buy them.

However, If I can manage, I will donate to the Nahrendorf, Dahlenburg, and Radenbeck church again, as soon as I can. I am sure they would be glad of a donation for doing a small search for me. Maybe you can fill Herr Bock stocking heaping full, for all his good works he does with his talent in research in the church archives. I hope you give pastor Slackner at the Nahrendorf church a nice special gift too.

Do what you can please Santa. I will leave you a slice of my best pie, my Chocolate peanut butter pie, which everyone loves. And some nice apples for your reindeer.

Sincerely,
Jo Meyer, a rootdigger.

Ps. Kris Kringle, I would love to see your family tree too. Do you have it all recorded. You really must you know.

Geneabloggers Christmas Advent Postings

When I finally got around to reading some blogs again, I noticed Hummer at Branching out through the years and
Michelle at The Turning of Generations doing a series of posts on Christmas. Later when Dr.Bill Smith commented at my blog, doing a followup, I found out there was a Christmas Advent Calender series. [His comment does not refer to that site, though]
It makes sense to call it Advent, because it is like the German heritage children would hang about twenty five pictures pertaining to Christmas in their room or a room. This would help them for the count down for Christmas. It is like my children would do every day, keeping track of Christmas, they would open these shutters of a window to see a day of Christmas on an Advent Calender, thus knowing when Christmas was nearly there. Much less expensive than receiving a gift everyday. [Grin]

Looking more at a comment from Random Relatives, I see other geneabloggers doing the a great job doing the same thing. Since I haven't figured out how to do this yet, I haven't participated. Partly too because I missed the start. I did however start a series of Christmas of the Meyer house at Sunnyslope Farm in Lewisville, Minnesota. You can read them at the link. I did a half hearted series, because as you know my 'stuff' is still in boxes. I have so few days off this month before christmas. I am Still Not organized in the office. And the scanner is blinking some warning as I write. It won't shut off. [Grin]

I really want to do a good job on those memories, so I will be adding to them as certain items are located. Then it will be fun in a sense of relaxed posting.

I'd like to do something on European Christmas too, but I know so little.

However, right now it does keep me from making today's Christmas memories with my family. And I would like to be able to do that for my loved ones for Christmas.

Be sure to read other Christmas Advent blog postings too here. They are really entertaining to read, even just to see the diverseness we have in America cause were all of so many very different heritages. You can find them on my links list at the side.

See you later, if I don't before Christmas comes, have a Merry Christmas!

A 'welcome' greeting to the New Followers!

My Goodness, Look everyone! See at the side column where it says "Follow" Our followers have increased from five or six to double over night. I see some familiar faces.

Welcome to Genealogy of Oldendorf, und Nahrendorf blog spot. Sit, join in, suggest, comment, give additions, lurk, correct, what ever you wish. Here we are mainly concerned with the people, places, events, media of the Hannover Kingdom by the Elbe River. Lower Saxony- Niedersachen.

Our family threads are extremely tangled, as it often is, when a group of German heritage settlers emigrate together from the old country. You see, Back there even today, when you stop at a stop sign everyone waves and knows your name. We don't want that familiarity go to waste. I want to perpetuate it here. If you have information from there, it is very welcome.

I tend to like to praise my donors, but you can stay anonymous, if you wish. We're kind of use to doing our own thing here. I am sorry to tell you, I tend to leave much of my information in German - Deutsch Language. [But I am no so dumb, I have my own reasons. Wink]

[Notice the guy at the end in the front row, a nonconformist? There is always a few in every group, right?
Or he broke his arm and couldn't do that prosperous business man gesture.] Source of photo is unknown, sorry.

Maybe you might even find your family here. I sport [ok, - borrow] others trees as well as records of my own. I hope my mangled jumbled blog gives you information you need, If not ask. I have a few readers not on the follow list with ties to Oldendorf, Nahrendorf, Dahlenburg, Bleckede, Dannenberg, and Luneburg, Uelzen, and Celle, who just might know the answer.

Well, time to go now, but maybe, we'll see you later.
